New. Now. Different. Better. Unique...innovation is the key for our hectically breathing 21st century. But the time when hecki techi engineers developed new amazing products in their mystic labors has passed.
With the rise of social media, innovation was suddenly driven by…the mass (uuhhh…). Which turned out to be a good one for creativity: It would finally get the full infusion of ideas which would be shared and shared and shared.
„Turn users into producers and consumers into designers“ (Charles Leadbeater at TED) is the message which brings innovation on a whole new level. And make marketing departments go nuts.
Certainly, the impact on our society and its working patterns is a historically one. I guess, we will spend the next decade figuring out how to change organisations and co-operation to really use the power of shared knowledge when it comes to creativity and innovation.
But we are not alone…out there are some really fascinating sources of inspiration: Charles Leadbeater, one very well known expert on innovation and creativity, provides with „we think“ a little jump start (I love his video about „we think“).
Conferences like Picnic and Mission Future on this year’s Ars Electronica discuss the chances of open source. And Creative Clusters all over the world prepare the ground.
And not to forget, collaborative creativity is one of the most important triggers for a creative class‘ way of life: it enables us to start a business out of motivation and not just for profit (even it’s the hardest part to find the right business model afterward. Advertising anyone????).
